2014 Formula Drift Tech Day – Part One
Once again, Super Street, Import Tuner, and Honda Tuning magazines bring together the better part of Southern California’s enthusiast community for their annual Tech Day at their office in Irvine, California. While we’d like to be able to provide coverage for every car that showed up, there were simply too many incredible builds, and our site just doesn’t posses the bandwidth capabilities to handle that kind of load(also, we’ve only got one camera guy). So sit back and enjoy the many cars we were able to shoot at the 2014 Formula Drift Tech Day!
Accords On Deck!
The 8th and 9th gen Accord community has developed into a substantial force to contend within the import community. Setting the standard in innovative wheel setups and intriguing new headlight modifications, several fine examples showed up to this morning’s event.
Several Team Hybrid vehicles were spotted throughout the crowd. This 8th gen Accord coupe, while not flashy or seemingly opulant, is very well appointed. Sometimes less is more.
If you can’t find this 9th gen Accord coupe, then you’re not at a real show. Chris’ Air Runner Accord sets the tone for the competition.
Trang’s 8th gen coupe boasts it’s beautiful blue paint contrasting against vibrantly painted wheels.
Decorated from head to toe in Mugen accessories, this 8th generation Accord was one of the most subtle builds on the scene.
Extra care was taken to ensure this black beauty was in prime show condition as the paint finish appeared immaculate.
To Each Their Own.
Civics are the staple of the enthusiast community. Most have owned one and all can say they have a friend who’s built one. Many showed up, but very few shared any common footprint in terms of design or inspiration – each being unique to their owners creative will.
You can’t go wrong with an FG2! This 8th gen Civic Si does a great job complimenting a black body with polished wheels.
Nighthawk Black Pearl does a great job of accenting the already aggressive lines of the HFP kit for the 8.5 gen Honda Civic coupe. The red JDM emblem sets off the front with a bright accent.
What’s better than a Type R conversion? You’re looking at it. The best you can hope for in a Honda Civic is usually the “Si” marquee here in the states, but in Japan, Mugen created the monster known at the “Mugen RR”. Quite an impressive animal, and this is a great tip-of-the-hat to it’s greatness.
An impressive 9th gen Civic. While it’s not sporting an Si badge, it’s definitely sport injected with an aggressive lip and concave white wheels.
Another Civic sedan with some Mugen appointments. WerdWerx is slowly working their name onto more and more builds in the Honda community.
Another prime example of a clean Mitsubishi Evolution X with goodies from Mishimoto, and AMS.
Daily Driver Revolution came out in full force with several vehicles, one of which being this Evolution sporting a gorgeous carbon fiber chin spoiler.
S2K – Honda’s definitive Roadster
The Honda S2000 is never in short supply at any show, be it AP1 or AP2. A couple Spoon wide body S2K’s graced the showgrounds with their presence as well as many more minimalist street builds.
It’s commonplace to see Scions sporting Toyota badges, but this Scion FR-S took it another direction with what appears to be a 3D printed 86 piston badge!
This Stormtrooper color inspired Subaru WRX STi wagon was utilizing a trooper helmet as a hood prop. Proof that presentation is just as important as the build!
“Yo dawg, I heard you like the Scion FRS, so we put an FRS in your FRS so you can drive while you drive!”
I don’t know what this is, but I’ll be sleeping with the lights on tonight.
Super Street, Import Tuner, and Modified each received a Chevrolet Sonic to modify as they saw fit. This is one of the examples that were on display at the 2014 Formula Drift Tech Day. Complete DJ setup in the trunk? Sure, why not!
Not exactly what you’d expect at a Formula D event, but a welcome sight nonetheless.
That’s all for Part One of our 2014 Formula Drift Tech Day coverage. Don’t worry if you didn’t see your favorite make or model in this portion, we’ve still got a huge stockpile of photos to work through. We’ll be working through the weekend to provide with you as many of the builds featured at Tech Day as we can, so stay tuned!
